As climate change wreaks havoc on the shores of southern Louisiana, residents wonder how long their resilience can last. But the hard work of adapting to a changing climate is well underway. This multipart VOA documentary series featured parallel video and text-based stories.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Built the project to make the video and text-based stories accessible to a global audience with a wide range of technical considerations — from low-bandwidth to broadband connectivity.
  • Photo edited and designed individual story pages to combine the personal stories presented in documentary photography with the supporting data and graphics to provide context.
  • Created interactive and static graphics using D3 and ai2html.
  • Used QGIS to analyze public data showing historical, current and projected changes in the rising water levels.
  • Showed the changes in the shoreline by comparing satellite imagery.
