Civil war has displaced many in Ethiopia’s Tigray region and there is no end in sight to their misery. VOA’s Heather Murdock travels to the largely cut-off conflict zone, as well as refugee camps in neighboring Sudan, to bring the story of a complex political situation and the growing humanitarian disaster.

RESPONSIBILITIES

I researched and developed the visual style and color palette for the animations used in the documentary.

Working closely with the script and interview transcripts, I animated a series of vignettes. The animations were based on first-person accounts of refugees describing their experiences.

I created storyboards, rough animatics, and produced the final animations using Procreate.

I also rotoscoped a series of animated portraits to introduce key people in the documentary.

I used After Effects to edit the animations and synchronized them with the interview audio.

Finally, I designed the documentary’s poster and landing page.
